This film justifies the hype.The story itself is intriguing enough. But it’s Daniel Day-Lewis’ stellar performance that makes you want to sit through all 160 minutes of it. A deserving winner of this year’s Best Actor Oscar, his portrayal of ruthless oil prospector Daniel Plainview is spot on. When he meets preacher Eli Sunday (Little Miss Sunshine’s Paul Dano), it marks the start of an explosive rivalry.
